Coverage Options

Understanding the parts of Medicare

Part A

Hospital Insurance

Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health services. Most people do not pay a premium for Part A if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.

Part B

Medical Insurance

Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and medical equipment. Part B requires a monthly premium based on your income.

Part C

Medicare Advantage

Bundled plans from private insurers that combine Parts A and B — and usually Part D. May include extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, and fitness programs.

Part D

Prescription Drug Plans

Standalone drug coverage that works alongside Original Medicare. Plans vary by formulary, premium, and pharmacy network. Choosing the right plan can significantly reduce your medication costs.

Medigap

Medicare Supplement

Fills the cost-sharing gaps left by Original Medicare — deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. Standardized plans (A–N) make it easy to compare coverage across carriers.
